Patterns of Life
Media Installation / Proprietary Software, 2018
Creative Direction, Design Strategy, Motion Desgin
Overview
As part of their global rebrand, MetLife commissioned Local Projects to design a custom application that embodied the idea of our intricately interconnected world. It was an interesting challenge to think of a brand as a Way of Seeing and to create a Lens through which others could interpret their surroundings. The result was Patterns of Life, a media creation application that abstracts the motion of scene into simple branded elements, empowering their team to rapidly generate content while also teaching them to see connections where they were previously hidden.

Design Strategy
While the underlying software combines several forms of visual analysis – vector fields, particle generation – it was important to keep the UI and output simple and intuitive. We wanted to empower anyone with this Lens to see the world through our Lens and be able to find their own connections and share them with the world.
